Open Source + your ideas + our ideas = innovation

Incubator of Web based Products

We are software engineers that love designing, developing and running web based products.

Our work is mainly based on forking great open source software which we use as a solid base for merging your ideas with ours.

Open source is our base

For our current product developments we intensively use the following open source projects as a starting base:

  • ChiliProject: We co-founded and support the Redmine fork ChiliProject. We use ChiliProject for all our projects and team communication.
  • Gitorious: Within our team we continously fork and merge our code and data. With Gitorious we can work in a Github-like style while adopting it to our domain specific needs.
  • SparkleShare: Dropbox is great but you can not adopt it to your needs. Sparkleshare hopefully will solve that in future.
  • R: At Forkmerge we try to take decisions based on information. R is a powerful statistic and graphic environment that helps transform data into information.

Jobs: Fork and Merge with us!

Presenting the Forkmerge founding story to HPI students

The HPI Connect Club of Hasso-Plattner Institute (HPI) had invited me and other HPI Alumni to talk about our experiences in founding companies. The goal of that event was to give interested HPI students insights by sharing lessons learned. Further the event served as platform to inform students of funding possibiliies provided by the public and private sector.

In my presentation I largely focussed on the question why it matters to bootstrap a startup on a purposeful product idea and why profitability alone is an insufficient motivator.

I enjoyed being there and meeting with students a lot. The talks of my former fellow students Gero Decker (co-founder of Signavio), Thomas Hille and Martin Karlsch (both co-founder of Madvertise) were both interesting and fun.

I thank the HPI Connect Club for organizing this event. They did a great job.

Newsflash: Presenting at HPI Connect Startup Workshop

The HPI Connect Club of Hasso-Plattner Institute (HPI) has invited me to talk about my experience in establishing companies such as Forkmerge and finnlabs.

The workshop will take place on Friday, July 1st starting at 3:00 p.m. I have the third slot after the break.

This will be the second time this year that I have benn invited to give a talk to current or former HPI students. In February I gave a presentation about the lessons I had learned about the work life balance as an entrepreneur in this business.

As a former HPI student I enjoy returning to this institute. I had a wonderful time studying in Potsdam and the friendships I made there during my studies still enrich my life today. Most of my friends and collegueas were or are still students or post graduates at HPI.
